For the next Book Club, we're reading The Poetic Edda: Stories of the Norse Gods and Heroes. These amazing texts from a 13th-century Icelandic manuscript are of huge historical, mythological and literary importance, containing the lion's share of information that survives today about the gods and heroes of pre-Christian Scandinavians, their unique vision of the beginning and end of the world. Registration is required and I-House will provide copies of the book to the first 15 graduate students on the condition that you join for the discussion. Snacks and drinks will also be provided!
This program is free and exclusively for graduate students at least 21 years of age. Please note that the main entrance is currently for residents only. Please enter through the parking lot on South Dorchester Ave.
International House will be providing virtual, in-person, and hybrid programming for graduate students for Autumn Quarter. Convenings are open to all invitees who are compliant with UChicago vaccination requirements and, because of ongoing health risks, particularly to the unvaccinated, participants are expected to adopt the risk mitigation measures (masking and social distancing, etc.) appropriate to their vaccination status as advised by public health officials or to their individual vulnerabilities as advised by a medical professional. Public convening may not be safe for all and carries a risk for contracting COVID-19, particularly for those unvaccinated. Participants will not know the vaccination status of others and should follow appropriate risk mitigation measures. We are complying with all University guidelines on the Go Forward website and at this time, masks are required to be worn by unvaccinated and vaccinated attendees inside International House.
